This tour ended up being a private tour for me and my mom! It’s a walking tour mostly with a boat ride to Murano. You even get someone at the glass factory to explain everything to you! What a great experience and included was also a yummy lunch!
Our guide for the morning walking part of the tour was a proud and very tall Venetian who shared his passion for the vibrant city. Sorry, can't remember his name but he was terrific! Our guide filled us in on the history and flavor of Venice while expertly guiding us through the maze-like streets and alleys. Highly recommend this tour as you get a terrific overview of the city and major sites from the outside. Our guide left us at the dock where we boarded a private ferry and were taken over to the island of Murano. Wish the ferry driver could have pointed out some things as we motored away but there was no talk. It's just a taxi ride by water to the island. Our Murano guide walked us to a restaurant for lunch where, after ordering a drink, he left us to rejoin us later after our meal. Lunch was good but service was slow. We were also charged for the guide's drink! When the guide returned late, we left the restaurant and walked to the glass factory. He was a nice guy but not a tour guide. We learned nothing about Murano's history. At the glass factory we were turned over to an employee who filled us in on facts as we watched 2 amazing glass blowing demonstrations. Next we were invited behind the scenes to see where the glass works were perfected and then wandered through rooms of Murano glassware. We were then ferried over to Burano and that ferry driver did share some interesting info as we taxied over. At Burano known for it's ornate lace work and colorful homes and shops we were dropped off to explore on our own and to get back to Venice on our own.
