The break in-between the morning and afternoon tour was a good feature, it allowed us the flexibility to eat lunch/shop/take a nap etc. I suggest you choose a hotel close to st. Marks square or rialto bridge to allow you this comfort and flexibility during the 2hr 30min break. We stayed within 5min walk from both areas and it was perfect.
