A private, off the beaten path tour of Venice

Lucrezia responded very quickly and made it really easy to book the tour. We’ve been to Venice before and wanted something a bit more personal. Before we met she provided a (big) list of restaurants and recommendations - very nice! We arrived in San Marco and wound our way through lots of little streets until the meeting point - Lucrezia was already there and her tour was informative, interesting and obviously because you are a small group you get all the attention and time to ask questions. Just Average Run of the Mill

For a city as fascinating and steeped with history as Venice, our guide’s info and/or enthusiasm for this amazing place was lacking. Run of the mill info was offered…”this is where an Indiana Jones movie was filmed…”. Really!!! That was so long ago, and I am sure other, more contemporary and interesting things have happened in Venice since that filming. A guide needs to assess his/her group and make a judgement call on what info to present to whom. Cookie cutter info doesn’t cut it. One would think the ability to redirect and switch gears with information would be a key skill of any “expert” guide especially after taking 10-15 minutes at the start getting to know us. Maybe (hopefully) this was an off day.
