What To Expect

Laguna di Venezia
If we told you there was a way to experience an authentic side of Venice without the crowds, would you believe us? The secret lies in getting away from Piazza San Marco and venturing further out to explore smaller islands strewn throughout the marshy, magical Venice Lagoon.

Chiesa di San Martino
This church was rebuilt several times and took on its present appearance between 1500 and 1600. It was consecrated on 29 October 1645 by the then bishop of Torcello Marco Antonio Martinengo.
Over the centuries it underwent several restorations, while preserving the ancient architecture.

Seen from the outside, the church lacks a main entrance, in fact you enter laterally through a Renaissance door, near the Chapel of Santa Barbara.

Burano
Further north in the lagoon lies Burano, a fishing island made up of hundreds of colorful houses that earn it the title of one of the most colorful towns in the world. Unlike Murano, which enjoyed industrial prowess for much of its history, Burano remained largely agricultural and fishing was its main industry. The colored houses are said to have been painted in bright hues to help fishermen navigate the lagoon on foggy days. Burano is also well-known for its lacemaking traditions, which originated in the 16th century.

The BEST part of our vacation

If you are lucky enough to visit the beautiful island of Burano, please do yourself a huge favor and book this tour.
We met Silvia and instantly formed a connection…she is so friendly and so happy! You can tell she is proud of her home! Since she lives on Burano she told us some history, fun facts, and answered all of our questions. I wish we could’ve stayed with her for hours. This was THE BEST part of our vacation for sure.

We hope to visit Burano again and meet up with Silvia who feels like an old friend.
Must do tour

Sylvia was wonderful, having grown up in Burano she was able to add personal touches to her discussion of the history of Burano. She takes you to the non touristy places which is a welcome relief from the busy streets.
Can't Recommend it Enough

While not absolutely necessary, this tour is the best way to see Burano Island in my opinion (I've done it once on my own and once through this tour).

Sylvia, the guide, is absolutely amazing. She was born in Burano and is one of the few tour guides that still lives there today. She's very friendly and passionate about island, and given her background is able to give a true "locals" tour including conversations with houseowners / restaurant chefs!

On this tour you'll see and learn about some of the history and major sights of Burano, but more importantly you'll learn about the life of the local people there and how it's changed with time.
Don’t miss this tour

The tour was made extra special since Sylvia’s family has lived on Burano for 4 generations. She understands it like no other. Her tour gave an excellent insight into growing up and living on Burano.
We had a wonderful time...

We had a wonderful time with the tour and the guide was also wonderful. Her knowledge as a four generation native made it more enjoyable. The only reason I gave it 4 stars was we were supposed to see lacemaking in person and we didn’t.
