What To Expect

The Grand Canal is Venice's main artery. It connects St. Mark's Square, the Rialto Bridge, Santa Lucia train station and more. On this luxury private cruise you will see the wonderful bridges and massive palaces that line the Canal. You will pass by St. Mark's Square where you will see the Doge's Palace and St. Mark's Basilica from the boat. It is the best way to see the city.

Secret Gardens in a Storybook City

I had never been to Venice before this tour. If you, too, are a first-time visitor, then you'll probably want to see the highlights while leaving yourself some time to wander on your own. You can definitely do the bell tower on your own (though it's definitely worth it for the view). You could probably do St. Mark's on your own (we did), but a guide certainly wouldn't hurt. But there's no way you would know nearly as much about the history of the city you were walking through without a guide to point out, oh, there's the house where Marco Polo lived. Look, that's the way Amazon packages are delivered in the only major city in the world without cars. There, that's the best pizza place in town because it's the only one with the right type of oven, grandfathered in before they passed a new law restricting the construction of more of them. That's the kind of insight we got from Marco, who truly loves his hometown and seems to know absolutely everything about it. You could probably take a boat ride on your own, and you should, but it was much better with Marco's narration. And without this tour, there's absolutely no way you could get into the secret garden, which was honestly the highlight of a tour filled with highlights. Marco was outstanding, and this tour offers at least one experience you can't get anywhere else.
