Excellent tour and guide

This was one of the best tours we have ever taken anywhere! Lara, our guide, was excellent and really made it the best experience possible for us. She was so knowledgeable and made the history of the basilica and Doge’s Palace come to life. She even spent extra time after the tour to give us a ton of recommendations while we have free time in Venice. I would recommend this tour to everyone coming to this amazing city!
Venice history comes to life!

Our tour was fantastic! It started with our tour guide, Lara, who provided context and background to these 2 incredible places. At each stopping point, Lara would make a point to bring a family member 'back in time' to when these structures were alive. This included my teens! The Palace and Basilia speak for themselves (beautiful!) and Lara's knowledge, approach and energy made this a highlight of our visit to Venice.

A not to be missed tour

Entering the basilica is like stepping back in time and overwhelming. There is so much to see just on the outside of the building! Inside the mosaics are amazing, gleaming at you from every surface. Dark wood and beautiful marble floors and columns round out the effect. Religion meets history meets politics. Make sure to go upstairs and see the cavallo (horses) and stand on the balcony looking over the square. Then we went into the Doge's Palace, surprisingly a large open courtyard with amazing statues and carvings. Once inside, get ready for room sized art by the Venetian masters. Each room gives a different look at opulence, power, and luxury. All the art was meant to make you feel initimidated, like you are in the house of someone important. Unbelievable. The armory was also breathtaking, implements of war (mostly gifts and ceremonial) of all styles and time periods. Armor, weapons, cannons. Then visit the prison for a look at the unfortunates locked up there. While the spaces are larger than expected, it couldn't have been fun in there. Overall both tours were extraordinary. Our guide was incredible, fun and knowledgeable, and the small group made it all the better.
